Market maturity for biomass fuels
The biomass energy market in Canada is much less mature than either the fossil fuel market, or than the biomass market in many other countries.
Implications for using biomass

This means that:

  • There are fewer specialist suppliers and installers
  • There is less knowledge and expertise amongst maintenance engineers and plumbers
  • There is less knowledge and expertise amongst potential fuel suppliers
  • Some fuels, such as wood pellets, are less readily available, as a result of the 'chicken and egg' situation between fuel supply and combustion equipment availability
  • There are grants available to help establish biomass as a viable energy source.

Despite this general lack of maturity, KALWA Biogenics Inc. has been one of the driving forces in the efforts to establish a solid bio-energy infrastructure in Alberta and has partnered with a number of experienced companies able to supply and install biomass energy systems of a range of sizes. We advise potential customers on the range of options available and assist in the entire planning and implementation of your bio-energy project.
